(registered 2026-10-13, last updated 2026-10-13) Scheme name: opns Status: provisional Applications/protocols that use this scheme name: Wallet applications on the ORDnet stack that support OpNS names (dot-less on-chain names, e.g. opns:alex). "opns" expresses a payment intent to the current holder of an OpNS name, resolved via an OpNS index and always confirmed explicitly by the user before any signing operation. Specified in ODNCA-STD-011 (public draft); this registration will be updated as that specification is adopted. Colon-only form; producers MUST NOT emit "opns://". No DNS interaction at any point. Scheme semantics: a payment intent addressed to the name's current holder; the handling wallet resolves the name, displays the resolved address, and requires explicit user confirmation. Never executed automatically. Encoding considerations: UTF-8 names; percent-encoding per RFC 3986. No IDNA/punycode processing. Interoperability considerations: no DNS resolution; unaware applications treat it as an unknown scheme per RFC 3986. No authority component, no default port. Security considerations: OpNS name state is not yet covered by ODNCA's committed-state anchoring (the specification tracks implementation status honestly in its §9); clients therefore resolve via an index and MUST display the resolved address before any signing operation, and MUST NOT auto-sign. Visually confusable Unicode names carry the usual homograph risks.
